Abstract

Fire is one of the main agents in the dynamics of ecological processes of terrestrial ecosystems. However, fire regimes have been strongly altered by human activities and climate change, making their monitoring very important for territorial management. The objective of this work was to map and analyze the fire regimes in the Campos Amazônicos Savanna Enclave (CASE), using multitemporal series of Landsat images. Fire occurences were identified in the period from 1984 to 1999, complementing an existing burned area database (2000-2019). To this end, Google Earth Engine platform and the semi-automatic Burned Area Mapping tool were used. The accuracy assessment was realized through the calculation of overall accuracy, omission index, commission index and Dice coefficient. The algorithm showed high levels of accuracy, with very low rates of commission (≅2%) and moderate-low rates of omission (≅23%). In the series studied (1984-2019), approximately 19097 km² of the ECCA were burned, with the largest subtotals in the years 1988, 2005 and 2014. It was found that 43% of the enclave recorded at least one occurrence in an interval greater than 3 and less than 8 years. The effectiveness of the algorithm was verified and the importance of monitoring the fire and its impacts is highlighted in order to better understand the ecological dynamics of the fire.
