This study intends to analyse and diagnose the socio-environmental conditions of floodplain of Pungue River, in Mozambique taking into account the temporal cutting in 1986, 1996, 2006 and 2015 for the effectiveness of environmental management proposals of the mangrove ecosystem. The technical and methodological procedures of the research were based on discussions and theoretical studies of geosystemic analysis, through collecting secondary data, literature review, interpretation of satellite images, cartographic collection and field surveys. The interpretation of primary and secondary data led to set up an integrated diagnosis in which they represent information relating to the problems, limitations and potential of the fluvio-marine floodplain of the Pungue River. Based on the diagnosis made, we propose an environmental and functional zoning, adding up some alternatives for a possible integrated and participatory environmental management plan, which is aimed on sorting the different environments of the Lower Course of Pungué river.
