Abstract

This study was conducted at the Praia de Redonda in the  Icapuí county, CE, aiming to estimate the total wood volume to make traps for artisanal lobster fishery by local fishermen. Data collection covered 51 fishermen/boats to quantify the number of cages each fisherman/boats took to sea during the 2015 season, from June to November. Measurements of 13 cages, by different fishermen, were taken to estimate the average wood volume per cage. The volume was calculated by V = π.r².h. Based on each piece which has the approximate shape of a cylinder, by measuring the diameter with a electronic caliper, and the length of each part of the cage with a measuring tape. The total volume was given by the sum of the volumes of each part. The total volume estimated to be 0.00040m³ by trap. This results in a total wood volume of 114.24m³.
