GEOECOLOGICAL UNITS OF THE MEDIUM COURSE OF THE POTENGI RIVER BASIN-RN:

notes for a sustainable future

Abstract

The transformation of environmental systems arouses the need for studies aimed at minimizing impacts on the environment. Considering the relations between use of natural resources and the impacts produced by society, the area of ​​the middle course of the hydrographic basin of the Potengi River (RN) needs the elaboration of analyzes focused on environmental planning. Faced with these reality, this study aimed to propose measures in the scope of environmental planning and management. For this, the middle course was compartmentalized and analyzed in different geoecological units, using, for this procedure, the structural and historical-anthropogenic approaches of geoecological analysis. As a result, seven units were analyzed: T (Tabuleiros of Potengi); P1 (Potengi River Plain); P2 (Plain of the Camaragibe River); P3 (Plain of the Jundiaí River); S1 (Riachuelo Planing Surface); S2 (Elói de Souza Planing Surface); and PL (Potengi Plateu). In the face of analysis carried out, structural and non-structural measures were developed for each unit in three spheres of activity, namely, environmental, social and economic, to minimize impacts. With this, it is expected that the proposed measures are an invitation to municipal managers to think better about the relationships of appropriation of nature, and, thus, to build a sustainable future.
